As the "heat transfer core" of an air cooler, the selection of heat exchange tube materials directly determines the equipment's heat transfer efficiency, corrosion resistance, and service life. Under different operating conditions, there are significant differences in medium characteristics, temperature, pressure, and environmental conditions, requiring precise matching of material properties. The following is an analysis of mainstream heat exchange tube materials for air coolers in industrial fields.

1. Carbon Steel: An Economical and Practical Basic Choice

Carbon steel is the most basic heat exchange tube material, offering advantages such as low cost, good machinability, and wide availability. It is suitable for clean, non-corrosive neutral media (e.g., industrial circulating water, clean air) under normal temperature and pressure conditions.

To improve corrosion resistance, carbon steel heat exchange tubes usually undergo surface treatments: galvanization (for slightly humid environments) or anti-corrosion coating (for air cooling scenarios with small amounts of dust). However, it should be noted that carbon steel cannot withstand acidic or alkaline media and is prone to rust in coastal high-salt-fog environments. Its service life is generally 3-5 years, making it suitable for ordinary industrial cooling needs sensitive to cost.

2. Stainless Steel: A Corrosion-Resistant and Durable Universal Solution

Stainless steel (mainly 304 and 316L) has become the preferred choice for mid-to-high-end scenarios due to its excellent corrosion resistance, with core advantages of strong resistance to chemical medium erosion and oxidation.

304 Stainless Steel: Suitable for weakly corrosive media (e.g., air with small amounts of salt, dilute sulfuric acid solution), it is widely used in medium-temperature cooling (≤400℃) in the chemical and food processing industries.

316L Stainless Steel: Added with molybdenum, it has better chloride ion corrosion resistance. It is suitable for outdoor air coolers in coastal and salt-fog areas, or for handling media containing chlorides and organic acids, with a service life of 8-12 years.

Although its cost is higher than carbon steel, it significantly reduces maintenance frequency, and its cost-effectiveness is more prominent in complex operating conditions.

3. Copper Alloy: A Preferred Material for High-Efficiency Heat Transfer

Copper alloys (e.g., pure copper, brass) are characterized by high thermal conductivity-their heat transfer efficiency is more than 3 times that of carbon steel. They are suitable for scenarios with strict heat transfer efficiency requirements, such as generator cooling in the power industry and heat dissipation systems for precision instruments.

Pure copper has high purity and optimal thermal conductivity but weak corrosion resistance, requiring nickel plating treatment. Brass (copper-zinc alloy) has better corrosion resistance than pure copper and lower cost, making it suitable for medium-low pressure cooling of clean media. However, copper alloys are prone to corrosion by sulfides and ammonia-based media, and their high price requires comprehensive consideration of energy efficiency needs.

4. Titanium: A High-End Guarantee for Extreme Operating Conditions

Titanium is a top-tier material for extreme operating conditions involving strong corrosion, high temperature, and high pressure. It resists strong acids (hydrochloric acid, nitric acid), strong alkalis, and high-salt media, while also withstanding high temperatures (≤500℃) and featuring light weight and high strength.

In fields such as nuclear power, marine engineering, and high-end chemical industry, titanium heat exchange tubes ensure stable equipment operation in harsh environments, with a service life of over 15 years. However, its cost is extremely high (about 5-8 times that of stainless steel), so it is only suitable for key projects with high requirements for safety and reliability.

The selection of heat exchange tube materials needs to comprehensively consider medium corrosion, temperature, pressure, energy efficiency requirements, and cost budget. Our professional team can analyze operating condition parameters to provide customized material solutions, helping equipment achieve the dual goals of "efficient operation + cost optimization".
